My Moonshot
"How do we contain them? We don't contain them at all. The best way to raise wonderful children is to be a wonderful parent." - Mo Gawdat
Back when I studied at INSEAD, I heard Mo speak. It was terrifying, and it was uplifting. Before, the field of AI seemed to be for other people. But, as Stuart Russell says, to ignore this would be akin to doing the following:
“Imagine what would happen if we received notice from a superior alien civilization that they would arrive on Earth in thirty to fifty years. The word pandemonium doesn’t begin to describe it. Yet our response to the anticipated arrival of superintelligent AI has been . . . well, underwhelming begins to describe it. (In a later talk, I illustrated this in the form of the email exchange shown in figure 1.) Finally, I explained the significance of superintelligent AI as follows: “Success would be the biggest event in human history . . . and perhaps the last event in human history.”

I believe I have a way to help, and that is what I must do. Given my lack of computer science skills, my path might seam circuitous. It will involve striving in seemingly unrelated fields so as to attain the contacts and expertise necessary. It involve deep study in matters not just of AI but also philosophy, psychology, and religion. Most of all, it will require connecting with as many like-minded people as possible to create this solution. That is how I ensure that this does not become an ego-driven vanity project and instead remains focused on the goal: to help and protect humanity while enabling the next generation to develop suitable values and promote consciousness, unlimitedly.
